The holiday season is just around the corner, which means parties, family gatherings, taking the kids back and forth, present shopping, trick or treating, and the classic PNW’s long bouts of darkness and rain.

You may be wondering- with all the other plans you have going on in your life, how do you stick to your workout plan? Have no fear- we’ve got you covered with some tips to stay on top of your fitness goals!

Tip #1: Find an activity that you love!

The beauty of working out is that there are so many options for you and your body! Finding an activity that you love is one of the best ways to make exercising a habit. Working out can be something as simple as a walk every day, or hitting up your favorite training class (pssst, we know of a Portland gym if you’re looking for one 😉) a few times a week!

Although it can be harder in the winter time to get up and moving, the benefits are definitely worth it. Working out can lead to better moods, healthier muscles and bones (bone density, folks!), better sleep, and more energy- among other amazing benefits! Plus, you can take advantage of the season to do activities that aren’t available year round, like snowboarding or skiing.

Tip #2: Stay accountable!

It can be hard to keep yourself motivated. Luckily, there are lots of ways to keep yourself accountable and excited for the gym! If you’re more of a social gym goer, you can hit up workouts with a buddy. If you are more into tracking your fitness goals, you could create a checklist with a rewards system for yourself each time you achieve a goal you’ve set.

Another great way to stay accountable is with a personal trainer. A good personal trainer will be able to help you set goals and give you realistic steps to get to where you want to be. At Fulcrum, we make sure that our members are set up for success with a fitness consultation, where we discuss goals and help make a workout plan that best suits you.

Tip #3: Set yourself up for success!

Sometimes, the key to making a fitness plan and sticking with it is as simple as making sure you are setting goals that are actually achievable. Our lives and schedules change, and so does our body and our own timing- especially with the holidays coming up. If you’re going home for the holidays, or have guests coming into town, it can make sticking to a workout plan tricky. But, with a little planning you can still make a fitness plan and stick to it. Online workouts can be a great option for folks traveling over the holidays, and Fulcrum has a great database of workouts for members to check out when they’re away!

So, there you have it- three tips to help keep you on track as the winter months approach. Regardless of your fitness goals or level, Fulcrum is here to help you make exercise a habit. See for yourself why we stick out from the other Portland gyms- set up a phone consultation and get started on your fitness journey today!
